disappeared (put aside, necessarily)

disappeared (put aside, necessarily)

"He was sick of craving, of wanting, of hoping, of losing."
The Marriage Plot, Jeffrey Eugenides (p. 161)

we walked along
with the trees bare beside us
and leaves crunching beneath our feet

the fall wind biting
until i realized you were not there
since i have been put aside necessarily

i am left
with the ghost of you there
and the smoke of us rising in the past

i walk new cities alone
and imagine coming back to each one

with you

to walk the city for the first time
again and hand in hand with you

i have disappeared
i exist only in the edges
of your life

i exist only in the brackets
of what you can offer
me in the fringes of us
