sleeping (faerie dust has nothing on us)

sleeping (faerie dust has nothing on us)

i.

this letting go of consciousness
living things all
must do it

sometimes we seek it pleading
sometimes it washes over us

our craving a solitary peace
calling for it by name

sleeping

this willful suspension
of seeming
awareness

from seeing only outward
to seeing only inward

falling into another world
into fluttering eyes closed

dreaming

that free-for-all of thinking
an unfettered mind
performing

for an audience of only one
pulling us away deeper and deeper

as if we do not mind
this solitary mindlessness

but. . .

ii.

hey
hello
can you hear me
are you listening
do you understand

my temporary madness
i am out of my mind

now
this is what i am asking:

i want to let go of consciousness
with you

this is not will you sleep with me
this lying together to fall asleep

slipping into each other’s dream:

we’ll hold hands
or better yet

wrap your legs around me

we will not let go
slipping
falling
with bodies pressed together so

until

faerie dust has nothing on us
